|Jasenko Živanov finished his MSc in computer science at the University of Basel in 2012. He has since been working on the reconstruction of 3D shapes from electron microscopy images.
His research focuses on the reconstruction of objects of an organic nature, such as tiny animals, which exhibit highly complex surfaces with smooth occluding edges. Since the shapes of those objects are assumed to be completely unknown, no statistical shape models can be applied. Instead, the problem is approached through variational methods, combining ideas from multiview stereo and shape from shading.
